Happiness. Happiness is easily one of the most sought after "things" in the world. Everyone wants to be happy. Very few of us know how to be happy and we question it when we have it. There doesn't seem to be a secret, but if the answer is available to everyone, why aren't all people happy? I think the answer lies with our fears.
Our fears prevent us from enjoying the moment. We become preoccupied with avoiding mistakes made before and preventing future problems. We are so stuck working to prevent, contain, avoid, caution, protect,...it is amazing that we even have the time to breathe. Taking care of oneself is fine, but when it becomes our obsession, we are taking our own lives. It is far greater to have a short life spent fully than a full life spent shortly. Let me point out our greatest examples, children. Children are free of the restraints that they will live by as adults. They learn through exploration and with great joy. Now, I do not suggest that people give up their fears, rather I think we should not give in to our fears. We are the masters of our own destinies and should not and can not deter ourselves from happiness. We cannot become prisoners to our own fears. Life is a grand thing and one immersed in living brings joy to all.
We must be aware that we should not compromise our integrity nor ignore our morals. It is still possible for people to act and react to situations with an open mind and see the beauty in every situation. Try it right now, just think about your day, your week, your month, any when and see all of the good that you have done. All the good done to you. Remember "everything in life is only for now" (For Now Avenue Q). So, appreciate it all.
